The Louth Navigation Trust is dedicated to restoring and preserving our historic canal network. Founded by passionate volunteers, we work tirelessly to bring these vital waterways back to life.

Canal History

Discover the rich heritage spanning over 200 years of waterway engineering and community resilience.

1767 - Construction Begins

The Louth Navigation was authorized by Parliament, connecting the town to the North Sea via Tetney Haven.

1850s - Peak Prosperity

Carried 40,000 tons of cargo annually, fueling Louth's agricultural and industrial growth.

1924 - Commercial Closure

Railway competition led to decline, but the infrastructure remained, waiting for revival.
